Digital calipers offer 4 measuring capabilities: outside dimensions, such as diameters, measured with the large jaws, inside dimensions measured with the smaller jaws, depth measurements with the extending rod, and step measurements taken from the back end of the jaws.

- Zero point can be set by pushing the ORIGIN button and retained to display the absolute true coordinate from the zero point which is usually the jaw closing position. Zero point would need to be reset once the battery runs out or removing the battery.
- Caliper auto shut off after 5-10 minutes. By sliding caliper will turn on the display and will retain the preset zero position as long as battery is not removed or battery still has power.
